Bad Beavers

by Franco Bertucci

She got up the other morning
to find her two favorite plum trees,
not robbed of plums,
not injured by beetles,
not scarred by a weed-wacker
not pruned to death by the power company,
but simply gone-

Stolen by some local beavers
who needed a couple of sticks.
Of all the inconsiderate things.
