Hiking

by Franco Bertucci

It burns on the way up,
hurts on the way down,
and feels so awfully good.
I feel sorry for the people
who live in Indiana,
where there are no bumps
higher than 800 feet.
They miss out on the exquisite experience
of summiting a mountain
and taking in the breathtaking,
glorious view
of the inside of a cloud.
