I Have Worked in the Weather

I have worked in the weather,
in the woods and the heather.
I know uneven ground and splinters.
I hope never to forsake the real world,
but after being out there,
I can appreciate pavement
and carpet and finished basements,
thermostats, two-car garages
and coffee made by machine.
