The Stuffing of Life

by Franco Bertucci

Here's to excess.
Here's to home-brewed wine and beer,
loud conversation, running children, very late nights and lots and lots of coffee.

All the laughter, hardship, victories
and sadness of twelve months;
ten siblings and their spouses and parents and offspring
stuffed into one house for three days
to stuff themselves and be grateful.

It doesn't happen often enough.

Thanks to Mino Christante for the title of this poem.
